well I've got both. haha

recently bought a Newsweek and a Time. (not cheap wei!) Was reluctant to subscribe due to complications that might occur if I we're to do so, because I'd have to go check the letterbox every week! haha. Well at least we know what IS going on around the world right... I'm sure RM20 once in a while won't burn my pocket! That's for sure. It's never stupid to invest in things that's going to be your writing ideas :D

now, you might be wondering what about the ammo? well, let's just keep it as it is lah aight... they're buried six feet under. way.... down. haha. not good to get angry and jeopardize my blood pressure on a cloudy day when any other day is scorching, melting hot!

threat to a world-famous geological heritage
destruction and fragmentation of forests (not excluding Bukit Tabur)

This is what people in Taiwan (it's what we heard... coming out from loud speakers. I don't know if it's a fact though.) love to say when they're fishing for customers.

That's right, welcome to Taiwan! Where the people are very, very courteous. Everything here is all too systematic. Terminals for buses and taxis are easily accessible after touch down.

We took a comfortable 国光 bus ride shortly after arriving at TaoYuan International Airport, to Taichung.

In one of the pictures below you can see Proton and Lotus cars with some of their names changed. Jumbuck! How queer is that!! haha.

Dinner at Taichung Station after check-in at a hotel (ours was a last-minute check-in. the first 2 hotels we went in were fully booked!) accessible via an underpass, behind the train station. Mos Burger!! yumm! and not forgetting hot chocolate and thick matcha.

Went shopping around the town centre. Bought 茶叶蛋(herbal egg) in a 7-Eleven store. It's cold, you need something hot to warm your GI tract!! Next, 葱饼(onion pancake). distinctly fragrant! smells really really good especially when you're cold!

Then we bought some 糖水 back. and called it a night! that's after finishing the 木瓜牛乳 which happened to be nice and comforting... hahaha. bonne nuit!

* notice the students' uniform-sweaters! Different schools have got different uniforms! And they come in a set, including school bags/brief cases, jackets, pants, etc. pretty cool huh!

First morning in Taichung（台中）: woke up early to catch a 6:10a.m. train to Chiayi Station from Taichung Station. The underpass shown here is just outside Taichung Station and leads to the hotel we stayed in.

It's a chilly morning, less than 20 degrees Celsius. So we had hot soy milk and homey sandwiches for breakfast. You can find them in front of the station entrance. They're so, so really good. As a matter of fact I miss them dearly so!

Train arrived ON TIME.

Past all the paddy fields in the morning sun; behind them misty mountains. Took a minibus ride from Chiayi Station to Alishan where we stayed at DengShan Hotel（登山别馆） for the night. The 3-hour journey, punctuated with temporary stops due to road works (they were drilling out loose boulders!) made us realise how dangerous the road up was! Since Typhoon Morakot destroyed parts of the road, repairs are needed to be carried out before the peak season (called 花季）, starting that weekend (we went up Alishan on Friday, 12Mar) arrives.

Alishan Train Station, after the renovation, is still not in use. Heard from our Alishan tour guide that the government spent millions refurbishing it. Majestic, but too bad we could not go for the train rides.

It's 12.30 in the afternoon. and 9 degrees Celsius. Freezing cold, albeit the town centre looking warm and sunny. 1.30p.m. and the mists settles in.

Went for a walk in the park, past a mosaic tile art along a stretch of wall. They're repairing some slopes in the park,too. Saw cherry blossoms and their many other species, ranging from dark pink to pure white. The weather wasn't good, quite cloudy in fact. We walked back to our hotel when it started to rain.

Had TaiYang cake or 太阳饼 we bought in Taichung. Buttery and sweet. Liquid honey filling. oooh, how it melts in your mouth... Dinner? Cup noodles from convenience stores, one of it is the 7-Eleven in Alishan. Then TV and goodnight. It's freezing! What can we do? Better to snuggle ourselves in heated beds than to brace the wind outside...

The day started with a 5 a.m. morning call. A tour guide took us and 2 other Taiwanese up Alishan to 玉山国家公园 , one of the seven national parks in Taiwan, to witness a sunrise. Too bad it wasn't perfect, but it was a nice experience. Weather: horribly cold especially at our stop at 塔塔加 (Tataka) despite wearing 5 layers of clothing. We actually underestimated the temperature before stepping foot in Taiwan. That was the one regret.

We proceeded to visit 夫妻树 (2 trees resembling husband and wife). Both trees were struck by lightning not too long ago, leaving their trunks badly burnt. The tree one the left is the wife while the right one is the husband. They also 'held hands' when you look at them from the right point of view.

神木 (they named it so because of their age) was next. This one here is the second or third oldest 神木 in Taiwan. 43 metres. Not very tall but it's 2, 700 years old. Click on the picture with the details of the tree if you're keen on knowing details.

Transporter 1156 MM took us back to our hotel for breakfast. Pack-up was done and we're bound for Chiayi for an express train to Taipei. Found at the hotel was a painting providing details of different seasons to watch sunrise and/or sunset, and also the infamous 'sea of clouds' called 云海.

Before we left Alishan, we strolled around the town centre, bought 'mochi' (quite expensive, but very fresh), went in the highest post office in Taiwan to send postcards, took pictures of flowers (note: the Calla lilies there are gorgeous! and spotless! compared to the ones sold along Petaling Street) and mutts. There was also a cultural dance in conjunction with a post-August8 incident( which I suppose is Typhoon Morakot)recovery programme.

Reached Taipei at night where we stayed at YMCA Taipei. Great place. Good service. What else could a tourist ask for?

*An eye-opener for gamers: there's a cyber cafe very near YMCA Taipei. Haha!

Breakfast at one of the shops in Hua Shan Market near YMCA Taipei. Took an MRT and alighted at Shandao Temple Station. It took more than one hour to buy the well known soybean drink, baked/fried biscuits and all. Very terribly long was the queue. Next stop: Ximending - shoppers' paradise. Shoes at extremely reasonable prices! You should also see the queue in front of a cinema. Shops at Ximending open quite late at around 11-11.30a.m.

The picture with an orange building on the right is where we went after Ximending. Wufenpu caters normally for clothing suppliers. Most of the shops selling clothes do not allow trying, so it was quite hard to buy any clothes unless you're certain about your size.

The blue plastic coin is a one-way MRT ticket! Efficient system. All you need is to touch it on a scanner (something like Touch n' Go) and you're off. When you arrive, just slot in the coin to pass through. No worries over having folded your stored value ticket! haha.

Next stop: Shilin Night Market, where the food comes into action. Very crowded streets. Good thing the weather wasn't hot enough to make you crabby. Pearl milk tea is indeed authentic! Chocolate, Passion fruit-nata de coco mix, they're all very nice! And cheap! less than RM4 for a big cup. There wasn't too much ice also!

Stinky Toufu stinks. Fried ones are more bearable compared to those that came with soup together with shitake mushrooms, beef and veggies. augh!!

Do try the humongous deep fried chicken chop! The 'lap-cheong' was fine also. No we did not try pig's blood cake.

One lesson learnt: be thankful of the cheap fruits in Malaysia! We paid RM50 for a few packets of fruits at the stall below.

Okay, back to hotel.

Had sandwiches for breakfast before heading to Taipei 101 via the MRT from Taipei Main Station. They have lots of bicycles ready for rental along the sidewalks in the city. The coloured brick walls in front of Taipei 101 mark all the engravings of names of people who have contributed to the construction of the once tallest building in the world. Soon after, we went shopping inside, bought lots of buy-one-free-one jeans, and continued in New York New York, another trendy mall just across the street, which is accessible using an overhead pedestrian bridge connecting several malls near Taipei 101. There is also a cinema complex - Viewshow Cinemas.

On the last day, we bought some doughnuts from Mister Donuts, pastries and mochi's (they're really really fresh!!) from Yamazaki's in Taipei Main Station before taking a Kuo-Kuang busride from Taipei West Bus Station Terminal to Taoyuan International Airport for our flight back home.

Will definitely come back again!! missing Taichung's multi-layer sandwiches and warm soy milk already...

indeed. pages of books do smell good. kind of addictive. well yeah, took three days to finish a five hundred pager, describing a day's events and misfortunes. I salute Dan Brown.
it is very true that books take you anywhere around the world, even to Timbuktu. some take you to extraterrestrial regions where your imagination roams free; others take you back to the 19th and 20th century during The Great Depression and the Industrial Revolution. you'd be amazed how hard ingenious criminals plan, months ahead, to rob gold worth billions of pounds in a train, or how terrible things can go wrong when a space shuttle's return carrying bacteria from outer space kills a town-full of people. sometimes even those whom you called dearest could plan your death whilst holidaying in an Oriental Express, without you suspecting they loathed you so much. impressive nonetheless.

very spooky entrance. we stayed here for the one night's trip. this place was booked by my aunt, and we got it FOC!! how nice : ) it's got a very colonial architecture... very comfortable! you see lots and lots of flowers, with credits to the caretaker of the bungalow... very pretty flowers!

somebody got up and went to the loo.
the rustle woke me up.
instinctively I reached for the clock right beside my pillow.
2 or 3 a.m.
great, not the time to get up yet.
gleefully and carelessly I slipped back into unconsciousness.

I had a dream. maybe a few in one.

hockey or football, I can't recall.
of being applied little diamante(or little pieces of accessories) all over the face;
and having to experience floating in mid-air and grooving with the music.

back and forth, back and forth.

then it all vanished.

there I was, or whoever it might be,
on a sandy place, strolling,
possibly.
holding some thing resembling a tiny crab,
disgust took over and made me cringe.

I smudged it.

feeling fenced out?

Thought of the week: It's surprising to have heard that so far none has been able to obtain band 6 in Muet (not sure of other schools though). I've gotten a five. The cause: A drop in standard/stricter examiners/tougher questions?

Went for the school's Annual Jogathon yesterday morning at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa where we jogged about 2.5 km or so. It was good, quite comforting to know that you're finally exercizing and eliminating accumulated toxin. Will be going for another run tomorrow morning near Times Square. It's also good to know your muscles aren't in much pain now, so tomorrow would be quite alright. Fingers crossed.

Well, I don't know... Sometimes it does feel like you're left alone wandering, in school or out, till the silence strikes and makes you wander even further - a world of your own. Exams are traumatizing, yes we all know. You might think that, well, 3-4 months... I'll manage to cram 1 1/2 years' syllabus and gear up for what's to come, but... there's always a thought fighting to surface, wanting you to acknowledge that time's running short and whatever that's done and passed can't be undone and relived, and it's better to buck up and be serious once and for all. That particular 'drive' you can't seem to tap into; the 'agony' of having to remind yourself the need to revise and practise. Dreadful... but a phase that has to be overcome.

Nobody said it was easy; no one ever said it would be this hard. Too bad we can't take ourselves back to the start.

Bonjour! This would be a brief update (I suppose). Sat for an 8-day exam which ended on 25th May. The papers were quite grueling. Yes, it's tough and I know I haven't been studying earlier, so I realised that consistent work (which was what I did not do) pays off. Got my results for micro- and macro-economics and it was a mild shocker. Expected the former to be much better than the latter, but what I'd gotten was the opposite. And the reason I was a little dissatisfied with myself was that I spent the most time revising for microeconomics. It's quite a letdown, actually. Still waiting for the results of the remaining papers... Meanwhile, had time to chill out for awhile after mid-year's... This is for an avid fan of doraemon while the other's for a friend who loves cheese.

This, together with a bunch of carnations was for the advisor of Sixth Formers' Club.

Went to Titiwangsa with a bunch of church youths (we call ourselves Footprints) on the 31st in the hot afternoon. They played games there and had lunch after a session of 'torturing' members by the leaders. I was excluded. Am behind the lens ma....

That's it for now... one more week until school reopens... gotta start doing homework... agh! Anyway... the people in this photo (taken by our form teacher/the school guard) is who I see every other day in school, just so you know... warm colours. well... nah... my classmates lah. Unfortunately, one of our friend has Multiple Sclerosis and is unable to join us in class. Hope he will recover soon. Tough guy he is! Keeping you in prayer! Well... seemed like I didn't clarify what happened to that Perodua Kembara right, folks? It's fine, only minor scratches on the left rear bumper. It's a different case for the Proton Waja though. Scratches and a (should I use minor?) dent. Door of the driver's side. Pretty bad. Anyway, coming back to the main issue of concern, the crash wouldn't have happened if I remembered my tuition replacement class that particular Monday. Yeap, it's Saturday today and I was listening to Mr G recapping last lesson's gist. Then came the Shocker when I was puzzled to hear unfamiliar sentences because I was actually looking at the previous notes I have with me (that was the week before last week's notes). Thought about being absent last Saturday and about planning to replace that class this Monday - which is the 27th, and got even mad at myself that I should've reminded myself regarding the replacement. Early dementia? Sigh... Ridiculous, I think I am... Don't feel like writing an essay now, so I request to be excused. EXAM in another 14 days. Here's to mortality....!!!

Gonna go pick some strawberries and perhaps make a bowl of jam. Come to think of that, I miss strawberry sundaes ...

Wouldn't like to relive Apr twenty-seventh.
walked over to the car with mom waiting inside. it was just after 1pm.
was in reverse gear. backed the car whilst manoeuvering the steering.
one mistake: did not check whether there are any obstructions surrounding the area.
Car was out. Well, almost.
since it's parked in a slanting manner, I thought there'd be enough space for a Kembara.
But then again, I thought the road was clear, so I promptly decided to go for a 'straight out' reverse.
just when I thought it'd be okay.... c r a s h. then came that faint b e e p from the sensor.

Earlier the entire class was badly annoyed when PK1 entered our class without hesitation or fear of interrupting our lesson.
Asked us if the air conditioner was on. No answer because we expected PK1'd just blast us for wasting electricity since the students do not need air-con during lessons because other classes do not have air-cons.
Then came the accusation that we found 'Ways' to unlock the second switch box to switch on the air-con because PK1 was sure that the air-con will not function if the second switch wasn't switched on when what we only did was to press the green button of the first switch. Plus, we did switch off after class. Still, we were blamed for our 'irrational' behaviour.
So much for installing unusable aged appliances in stuffy classrooms. And No,we did not switch on the air-con.

Enough said. We are still pissed.(pardon me)
That was part of the story leading to the crash, by the way.

Indeed, I've been very very occupied. School's demanding towards the 6th formers. Nonetheless, here's a brief recap. And I do mean BRIEF.

The sun hid. The family gathered. The acquaintances ate. The birthdays passed. The routine began. The intensity heightened. The stress amounted. The eye bags loaded. The president got stuck(between the devil and the deep sea). The activities resumed. The trip(to the choc factory) settled. The remaining to be coming.

The time passed. The stress remained. The speech awaits. The tension increases. The terror haunts.

Yep, I have a feeling I've left out 1 or 2, maybe 3 or more things.... Anyway, Accounts test will be on this coming Thursday. Am a bit relieved it's only Cost Accounting, not financial accounting.

Easter is a month away. I'll post the details some time soon! Remind me to! Have been heading practices every Fri and Sun. School holidays are... just a time, a very brief one, to get your things settled and get some rest in the last 2 days. Agh, how I long for simplicity when some people just think that more is, well... more...

Yep, it has been quite a while since my last update. Okay... I have been lazy and I don't want to be too online-dependent. Who knows what it does to you, eh...

November2nd, played Futsal with members of the youth group in church, at an indoor futsal centre in Air Panas.
November9th, jogged/walked for 4km around Dataran Merdeka. Whole family participated in the annual charity walk/jog/wheel-a-thon with the disabled. That was tiring. But it's for a good cause, so I didn't mind. Got to flex my muscles anyway, heh? Ouch!

2nd semester holidays are back, yeah we all know that, and guess what, it's already almost rest-less. In a way that I've got time to read all the in-the-waiting-list books, not all though. Have finished The Two Towers and Stephen King's Lisey's Story(bought it in 2007) so far. Won't stop yet. A chance too dear to miss.

Tuition classes eat away the Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The rest of the week I'll have to force myself to read one next year's textbook and prepare notes. Leceh kan. sesungguhnya, it's for our own good in the end, betul? Gotta gear up for 2009 somehow...

Yesterday was a bright, sunny Friday. Finished washing school shoes then I thought, clear skies, fluffy white clouds, and that eye-of-heaven which doth not cease to cast its ray ... might as well kill some time snapping away the creator's marvels. Note: 'twas around 1pm when these were taken.

another year to wear these. right till december.

School shoes will not be in my sight for another 7 weeks or so. It'll be a different story when I'll have to wear them next time.

In the meantime, will spend some time doing what I enjoy doing for now. With Christmas looming and birthdays approaching, gotta oil my right brain (It'll take longer to rust)... yep, craft sessions are back! not full blast though...

Camp will be from the 11th-15th of Dec at Cameron Highlands.
And... I'll be off to The Land of Kathoeys. (if you're clueless, wait till I get back!)

New sets in Polyvore recently. Hope I'll have more time over there. and I'm sure I'm starting to miss sitting comfortably in the seats of a dimmed room watching a movie with the surround-sound and all...(the other details, I'll leave you to wander off... about who's sitting next to you or who's buying the popcorns...whichever comes to your mind)

Tuesday's Feat!

7.45am - begun our ascent.

8am - reached first peak.

shown here's the reservoir. Klang Gate Dam, which reminds me of the waters of Isengard.hah!

8.08am - pit stop. note the altitude. below is a part of taman melawati.

9.16am - steep slope right after second peak.
assisted by two dogs, pets of another group of climbers we met.

9.22am - scaling the rocks.

9.39am - we're at the opposite peak.

9.50am - crossed over.

10.08am - third peak.

10.48am - an open space. halfway, trekking down.

11.10am - an open space. nearly finishing. note the rocks in the background.
that's where we climbed, I presume.

approx. 11.30am - completed hike. went for lunch at Dharbar's.

not expecting the next day we can barely get up from bed.
went to school, nevertheless.
two days of walking in a funny manner.
bukit tabur was worth the hike. spectacular panorama. kinda terrifying slopes. weather was great. no rain on mon. tracks downhill weren't muddy. trails were challenging, nerve wracking. rock climbing was great! so's the photo taking, at such an altitude!

long to experience the real thing? do not hesitate to notify.
there'll be a second hike for sure! (if circumstances permit)

Sept 30th - sheryiin's ...

went to a place where butterfly-cut chickens are grilled;
caught up with each other and all were slightly thrilled.

and so they came over and stayed for a while;
took a picture and neighed til some went wild.

all is good, all is well.

fine... here goes :

1. don't be surprised when you see some one reading and smiling and/or mumbling to herself in the lrt or in class during free time. I always do that. maybe I'll just frown instead, eh?

2. don't know why I'm very fond of green. especially olive green. used to loathe what we call it 'durian-green' when I was young. maybe that's how I grew to love durians. haha

3. I mentioned that I loved to doodle on my knees, some time ago. yeah, that's one thing I can't figure out why. out of papers? who knows? contraindication: being threatened that I'd be skinned. ink acidic. bad for skin. ink bad. ink no good on skin. do you hear?

4. I used to loved to draw sailormoon (and her gang: venus, mercury, jupiter, mars...even chibi-moon) in primary 1 or 2. I've got a friend who's a boy who loved to draw them as well. and I STILL remember his name. good ol' days. bad drawing. very bad. big eyes. sharp chin. long hair... their hair, ahem... not the hair-down-there, I was kind of 'mesmerized'. seeing how they flow or catch the wind.

5. used to not like to clap my hands or sing during sunday service when I was young. maybe kids are like that. But one happy thing about sunday school (conducted in mandarin) is that we've got presents. One time my teacher gave me a teddy bear, a white one, who 'sings' out a lullaby, when you press its tummy. sweet memories...

6. people told us(sis and I) that they did not expect us to watch anime. because we did not look as if we're the ones who like to watch animation. naming a few here: (then) cardcaptor sakura, slam dunk, naruto ; (now) bleach. and mind that... watching anime dubbed in BM is a whole lot funnier. It's TRUE. too bad no time these days... care to lend me some? really wanna continue watching bleach. we're stuck at ep. 80.

7. attended drawing/art class when I was in primary 4/5. my teacher's an artist and she's from the same church as well that time, involved in sunday school. used colour pencils and learnt quite a lot about using colours. colour tone. shadows and all... wish I could've extended the lessons back then.

8. I love to read. Yet, most of the time I'd stack 'em at one corner, thinking that I'll let them pile up first and read articles, books, newspaper clipppings at one go. guess it'll be very hard to come to pass. I've been pestered to clear up the mess lots of times. ( to Sheryiin: I'm so gonna finish Kit's Law!!! gonna return it to you soon... just wished I had the time... ) haha. my favourite so far: agatha christie's Poirot series. ask me if you want to know other books i recommend.

9. Sometimes being alone feels like you're detached from what's around you. And i think it's a sense of peace that makes it worth the detachment. maybe you might not get what I mean. never mind.

10. I do not like to eat cempedak. and fruits of which their texture tastes the same. ciku. dates. ugh... nangka is good enough.

11. my tongue will hurt when I drink coke or pepsi after eating potatoes; eating guava; certain pineapples; even aubergine makes my tongue itch. because my tongue's got 'cracks'. don't know what they call it.

12. used to say the word 'kumbayah' quite often when I was young as well. you know Eek, the Cat? haha. and the phrase ' well, you know me...' ala Mat Rock in SpanaJaya, the local tv series.

13. people think that making crafts/cards and all, the inspiration comes naturally. certainly it does Not. sometimes it comes just like a click. other times, you may get stuck and abandon your 'project'. after all... it's hard to explain... nevermind, again.

14. I'm no good at PC games, those of which involves multi-tasking, which needs you to do this and that while defending/killing stuff while trying hard to make sure you still have a life. yea, I admit that. I can only focus one thing at a time if you want me to do something the way you want it.

15. before moving over to the present house, we had to follow a rule while watching tv, which was to avoid leaving the carpet. if not, 50cents if caught out of the carpet. so we kept our toes touching the carpet when we lie on our stomachs. sometimes we pay 1 ringgit just for another chance. 'belanja terdahulu' eh? accounts people?

guess that's all for now.
tired, tired week. exams a month away... gah...

August 17 , Sunday, USM Penang - sister's convocation

this sure looks like an olympic torch eh?
loved the 2 bouquets we brought there.
bought the flowers at a shop in PetalingStreet. packed them a day before our trip up north. strangely, they do look kind of Greek(I think I need to rephrase this...but never mind that).

scorched : came back with a sunburn and I've got red, itchy spots on my forearm for days.
had fun photo-taking though. Sunday's weather was good, really.

yeah, get work soon!

talk about God's perfect timing huh?

Finally I got to watch The Dark Knight, despite hearing someone complain that he did not know what the movie was about. It was good. Psychotic. Deeply moving. And I loved the way the narrator(or was it Officer Gordon) talks when it was coming to an end, about Batman being Gotham City's silent guardian and all... but not the hero, the villain instead. sigh.

sheesh.... homeworks kept on waiting, waiting... waiting for the time to devour me.

August 19 , Badminton tournament for all sixth formers.
do not feel like bringing up the past. sadly, I was beaten by an olahragawati sekolah. It was fun, I know. The next day I felt like I'm a bag of stones. Getting up was tough.real tough.

August 21 , former classmates(form 5) gathering up a hill called 'Look Out Point' near Hulu Langat. Response was good this time. got to meet up and talk for a while. yea, it was good.

August 23 , titiwangsa family photoshoot : sister's of course.

Dynasty Hotel : Farewell Party for the Seniors.

decoration was minimal, but nice... cuz 'we' did it. fussy people, I know. but, it was a joy, such a contentment to savour that. by the way, sis and I custom-made this guest book. glued the ribbon. wrote the front cover. that's it. the prom was alright for me. good in a sense that we benefit from the exposure( pun definitely not intended ). nevertheless, there is still room for improvement. the organising committees have done a good job, but I have a feeling that we're still far from being able to adapt to the 'prom culture'. anyway, it was a good start for a school like mine. and mind me, my feet sure felt funny wearing 3-inch heels.
